Frankenstein or the Modern Prometheus, written by Mary Shelley (1797-1851), wife of the romantic poet Percy Bysshe Shelley, is the cornerstone of Gothic literature. Prometheus, the titan who stole fire from the Gods to give it to humans and improve the quality of their life and advance their knowledge and technology is represented by the character of Victor von Frankenstein. Beyond the literary value, it is a novel that profoundly questions the intimate meaning of scientific and technological research, its tendency to extend knowledge and to go beyond the limits of human life. The birth of this amazing piece of gothic literature is worth to be reported.
