Around mid-way through George W. Bush’s first term as president of the United States, Science published an editorial entitled An epidemic of politics (2003, vol. 299, p. 625), denouncing the strategies of the Bush administration that were geared at manipulating science, in other words at twisting scientific knowledge in order to satisfy political and ideological agendas.
